Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

The staff members are Miss Bibi, Mrs Walsh, Mrs Hussain and Mrs Bibi.

In we promise to...

  • always work hard and try our best
  • follow and listen to instructions the first time
  • always present our work neatly
  • always speak kindly and politely to all adults and children
  • work hard as a team and help each other

Below are some websites that you can use to support your child with their homework. We have also included some examples of homework completed by some year 3 children.

At Bankfoot, we are committed to providing a culturally inclusive and relevant curriculum to suit the needs of all pupils.

Following consultation with parents, we have designed long term plans for each year group. We have tried to link the topics with countries and cultures beyond Europe. If you have some more ideas that we can include please talk to the teachers. We value and welcome your contributions.

In Year 3, we aim to be outstanding in our work, behaviour and all other aspects of school life.

The children will be taking part in a range of fantastic, creative lessons this year, to ensure they are always making progress in their learning.

We have just begun our journey with Linking Schools this year. Our Linking School is St.Joseph's Catholic Primary School and we will be interacting with our 'Linking Partners' very soon!

We understand and appreciate the help and support you give to your child. Together, we can help Year 3 achieve their full potential in all areas of the curriculum. Together, everyone achieves more!

I am looking forward to a great year with the children.

Please find our newsletter for Autumn 2. Our topic is Greek Myths.

Year 3's topic this term is Settlers. The children will be learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

Through this topic children travel all the way round to the east of the world and find out about the Shang Dynasty.

A few of the questions we are reflecting on in our topic are:

  • Can we locate our own country on a world map?
  • Which countries are close to us?
  • What are the differences between Eastern and Western cultures and values?
  • Why should we celebrate diversity?
  • Which countries would I like to research and explore?

We will research cultural similarities and differences between Eastern and Western countries and continents.

This topic will allow us to reflect on our own place in the world, both socially and geographically!

We will use our class reader, The Firework Maker's Daughter and a range of other sources to compare Eastern and Western cultures, customs and traditions.

In Art we will create a wide range of work influenced by Japanese, Chinese and Asian cultures.

This spectacular topic helps children learn about the amazing life of the inspirational author Roald Dahl and his magnificent adventures before and after he became a fabulous writer!

In this topic, the children will explore the life and achievements of the great author.

Please find our newsletter for Summer  2. Our topic is Pompeii. We will be studying a range of natural disasters, including volcanoes.
