Our classroom

  In Literacy we are exploring poetry and explanation texts. We are investigating key features of poetry such as rhythm, rhyme, beat, powerful imagery and onomatopoeia. In our non fiction unit (explanation texts) we have been exploring and using imperative verbs, adverbs of time and diagrams to explain the water cycle.

We are are reflecting on the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual aspects of poetry. Our big philosophical questions for this topic are based on the following ideas and concepts;
  • Social and Cultural: How does poetry reveal to us differences cultures around the world? Are there any place specific dialects or ways of communicating?
  • Moral: Why is it important to listen to the experiences and emotional expressions of people from all around the world?
  • Spiritual. How can poetry provide me with a creative outlet for my own opinions, beliefs and ideas?

We have just begun our journey with Linking Schools this year. Our Linking School is St.Joseph's Catholic Primary School and we will be meeting our 'Linking Partners' very soon!
We have been reflecting on our social, cultural and spiritual identities through a wide range of activities in our PHSCE lessons.

 In Science we are investigating Light and Shadows. We are exploring the was in which we are able to see objects and we are investigating the reflection of light. We are designing and conducting science experiments in order to deepen our knowledge of the light around us.

We are are reflecting on the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual aspects of light. Our big philosophical questions for this topic are based on the following ideas and concepts;
  • Social. Light enables us to see. We all perceive colours slightly differently; why is it important to respect the diversity of everyone's experience in life?
  • Moral.
  • Spiritual.
  • Cultural. How can we reduce light pollution? What are scientists doing at the moment to reduce light pollution? Why is scientific research into light important?

  In Numeracy we are learning how to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve complex word problems. We are using our reading strategies to identify key question words before calculating answers.

We are performing mathematical investigations into division with a focus of quotients and remainders. We are using our regrouping skills in all the four operation to help us calculate accurately.

We are are reflecting on the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual aspects of division. Our big philosophical questions for this topic are based on the following ideas and concepts;
  • Social and Moral. How important is it for wealth to be equally distributed across the world from eastern to western countries?

  • Spiritual and Cultural. How do shared experiences help us achieve success together? WHy is it important for us that we learn to divide our time up into both speaking and listening so that we can fully appreciate the advantages of mutually respectful dialogue?
